Paper and Printing
Zirconium chemicals are used in the paper and printing industry to give added strength and water resistance to paper. Ammonium zirconium carbonate is the most common compound used in this application and the zirconium ions act as cross linkers. This means that the zirconium ions link together the CaCo3, starch and fibres of the paper giving a better surface finish.
